About the workshop
Empty body is the most proper form of body for dancers as well as for performers. An empty body is the purest form of being which does not carry any character nor any characteristics. So, an Empty body can easily represent any elements in the world. It can remain stood up as a tree for years, or stay motionless as a stone for ages, it can breath as the air and wave as the wind. To avoid any fake and naive image from the method, this all needs a deep understanding from spirituality, poetry, Meditation and Sufism. The workshop Meditative dance is trying to give a basic taste of all this to its audience.
Conclusion: Through the course participants would learn basic lessons of creating choreographies inspired by poetry, nature, imagination as well as everyday life. On the way of looking for an new dance style, the method gives a try to different dance forms, bodily expressions, cyclic yoga, body/mind research styles and of course the Poetry.

When the frogs sing -theater production 2012-2013

This is an experimental theater performance for children using sensory elements. It’s an interesting meeting between installation-performance and young audience. The production is dealing about fart through fantasy story about frogs living in people’s bottom (frog=fart). This performance is a playful journey/game which children search for what makes OupOup/GegulGegul/KeroKero/KvekkKvekk sound
through the performance. About 30 mins long.

Imagine that we all have our own frogs in our bottoms and they tend to sing sometimes. And when we listen to their singing, we dance and our body moves naturally.

In reality we call it fart. The interesting sounds, smells, dynamics, rhythms and melodies of farts are the main materials of our production together with the different ways of expressing of frog’s sound in different languages. For example, the frogs sing (make sound) ”kvekk kvekk” in Norwegian. In Korean, we express that they sing (make sound) “gegul gegul”, “oup oup” in Thai, “ribit ribit” in English and “kero kero” in Japanese.

Young audience will take a journey into a space where they can expereince 3 stages of frog life; Egg- tadpole- adults created by sounds/words, lights, smells(?) and texture and movements. Of course here the frog is the metaphore of fart.

Maze of My Skull

“Maze of my skull” is made by Kyuja Bae & Sarah F. John with consultation of BBB Johhanes Deimling in 2011 for their second year independent project at Norwegian Theatre Academy. It is an installation with combination of performance arts. Over 1000 shoes were used for the project and they were supported by a second hand shop, Fretext in Norway and contributed by students in Ostfold University. It is about 20 minutes long.

Project B@E by Kyuja Bae

Project B@E (Birthday at Email) is created by Kyuja Bae during the workshop (3 weeks) with performance artist, Joshua Sofaer at the Norwegian Theatre Academy, 30th April, 2010.

The main goal of this project is investigating how a repetitive event like a birthday party can transform into an interesting performance art dealing with the theme of identity. Kyuja Bae wants to experiment this project in many different countries and meet the different cultures and people for better understanding who the audience/friends are to the performer/Kyuja Bae.

Project B@E in Fredrikstad, 2010

For 12days, I had 45 meetings randomly with strangers in the street

and I got 40 email addresses from them by using the name of “art”.

I sent 40 invitation emails to the strangers through the email address I got without letting them know it would be a birthday party.

I got 5 answers back from them with 2 positive answers that they would come and 3 negative answers.

No one came for the birthday party in a gallery from the strangers.

But I had 2 attendants by accident.

I sent 37 emails to them again with 3 questions

1) why didn't you come to my invitation?

2) Why did you let me (stranger) know your email address?

3) Will you come if you are invited again for this project in the future?

I got 10 answers back from them,

80% of them were busy,

10% forgot and 10% were tired so that they couldn’t come.

50% wanted to be kind to me so they just shared their email addresses,

30% thought I looked nice so that they gave me their email address even though I was

totally stranger to them.

And 20% gave me no answer for the second question.

80% said yes if it's possible , they would like to come and see my work another time and 20% mentioned no answer for the third question.

3 of the strangers wanted to see some photos of the performance if they can.

and we exchanged emails and now we are friends on facebook.

2 of the strangers encouraged me by saying this world needs the artist like me.

1 of the stranger kindly gave me a feed back on my project.
